Remote place

I think that everyone who love adventure dreams about visiting this waterfall! In any case, that was one of my dreams that I was able to make come true last year! Before my trip to Indonesia had started, I had read about this remote island and saw the beautiful photos of Mata Jitu Waterfall. I told myself if I've any chance to go there I'm going! This waterfall is so beautiful that I wanted to admire it with my own eyes. So that's what I decided and did.. I visited Mata Jitu Waterfall on Moyo Island in Sumbawa, Indonesia'🇮🇩.

How do you get there?

It's not so easy to get to Moyo Island. First of all you need to go to Sumbawa, Sumbawa is one of the bigger Islands from Indonesia. Not many people know the island and that's why it isn't really touristic. Which I personally always find adventurous and interesting. It's a beautiful island with amazing nature, great beaches, beautiful valleys and lots of local life. Sumbawa is located on the right side of the more famous island Lombok. To go to Moyo Island you would have to depart from Sumbawa Besar by ferry.

There are 2 options to travel to Sumbawa Besar, you can fly from Jakarta, Bali or other airports to Sultan Muhammad Kaharuddin III Airport. Or you can travel over mainland. We did the last option, from Bali across the mainland by motorbike. With the first option you will be there a lot easier and faster, but we decided to take te adventurous way. So we drove from Bali to the Padang Bai harbour, took the ferry to Lombok and drove all across the island to Kayangan harbour, took the ferry to Sumbawa and arrived in Poto Tano harbour! When you arrive in Sumbawa Besar you need to go to Badas harbour to take a ferry to Moyo Island. This can take a long time waiting because a lot of the time the boat will be delayed or even canceled last minute. The best thing you can do is to go there as early as possible to check there schedule and hope that it will work out. You also need to know that you've to take into account that the boat can be canceled and that this also happens on the way back from Moyo Island to Sumbawa, so it will be possible that you will be stuck on the island for even a few days until the boat arrives.

When you get on Moyo Island:

You'll arrive on the pier of Labuhan Aji Village, from this village you can rent a bike from the locals or just walk in to the jungle of Moyo Island.

My opinion about traveling to Mata Jitu Waterfall:

I would highly recommend to travel to this amazing waterfall, it was one of my most adventurous trip I had ever made. But it was truly worth it! Because it isn't that touristic yet, we had the whole waterfall by ourselves. You can take a dip in the natural pools, the water is super clear and very refreshing too.
