When I was around 14 years old, I bought my first Canon camera (Canon SLR 1200D). I've been using Canon ever since, I just love the way it looks, feels and works. I bought my first GoPro (GoPro Hero 5 Black) in 2017, because I went backpacking with my sister. Last year I decided to upgrade my gear and skills, so I bought my first drone as well. In this blog you can read which cameras I bought, what I based my choice on and what the qualities are.
My gear:
Canon EOS R8 + RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM + RF 50mm f/1.8 STM
GoPro Hero 11 Black + Creator Edition
DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone + Fly More Combo
Why did I choose exactly this equipment?
Canon EOS R8 + RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM + RF 50mm f/1.8 STM:
I wanted to upgrade my Canon camera because I still had the Canon SLR 1200D. For me it was very important to buy a lightweight camera, because I would carry it along on my travels. The Canon EOS R8 is a full frame camera and a very compact lightweight body. The R8 uses a new sensor that is also in the R6 II and has a 24.2MP CMOS sensor in combination with a DIGIC X processor. Together, this combination ensures excellent photo performance and fast autofocus. When recording video, frame rates of up to 60p are available in 4K and up to 120p when recording Full HD. Capture moving objects with incredible precision and create super-smooth slow-motion effects in post-production and with a maximum speed of 40 photos per second, you can freeze every movement. That's why it's an excellent all round camera for my social media channels.
RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM: This kit lens is a great lens to shoot, landscape, portrait and street view with. It weighs only 210 grams and has a nice zoom range between 24 and 50mm. This way you can easily take it with you everywhere. With the 4.5 stops of image stabilization, you can take razor-sharp photos and recordings in every situation.
RF 50mm f/1.8 STM: Is a prime lens with a standard focal length and a classic, versatile field of view in a particularly compact design. This lens is ideal for everyday walkaround shots and suitable for working in difficult lighting conditions. Also, the range of high sharpness, accurate representation of the subject and offers more control over the depth of field.
The Explorer Filter Kit: This kit includes a UV, CPL and Variable ND2-400 filter, so you have some creative tools to elevate your outdoor photography.
Ultraviolet Filter cuts UV light to sharpen your photos and protect your lens against scratches, water, dirt, and fingerprints.
CPL Polarizing Filter cuts reflected (polarized) light, which increases contrast and boosts colour saturation and vibrancy.
ND2–400 Variable ND Filter provides 1 to 8.66 f-stops of light reduction, giving you greater creative control in changing light outdoors. Slow your shutter for long exposure and motion blur effects, or open your aperture for depth of field effects. Cinematographers can use it to achieve more cinematic effects too.
Memory card: To get the most out of my camera I use a Lexar SDXC Professional 128GB UHS-II V90 2000x memory card.
Because the body is compact, the battery is also small, which means that it can't be used for very long and that's why I bought an extra battery. You can also charge the body with an external power bank.
GoPro Hero 11 Black + Creator Edition:
I really love the small GoPro. I use this camera to capture my daily life, like vlogging, because it's just so easy to bring with you and the HyperSmooth 5.0 video stabilization with horizon lock is amazing. That's why I bought the Creator Edition. It comes with the Volta, Light Mod and Media Mod. The Volta is a battery grip and it's really great for travel, because you never run out of battery this way and capture all the moments all day.
I also use some accessories to upgrade my quality.
GoPro accessoires:
PolarPro Fifty Fifty Dome
Max Lens Mod
Selfie stick El Grande
Floaty Case
The Handler (floating hand grip)
PolarPro DiveMaster Filter Kit
Waterproof Protective Housing
Bite Mount
Chesty
Curved Mount (helmet)
DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone + Fly More Combo:
This is my first drone so I thought it would be smart to start with the DJI mini 3 pro, because it has ActiveTrack and Obstacle Avoidance. The drone is lighter than 250g so you don't need a pilot licence. This makes it a nice drone to start learning with. For content creators has the Mini 3 Pro a useful feature: True Vertical Shooting. You record the images in portrait mode, so you can share them directly on TikTok or Instagram. This drone offers an impressive 4K video resolution, ensuring stunningly clear and detailed aerial footage.
I hope that this blog gives you the right information to help you by making your own choices around camera gear. Below you will find some shots I made with my gear. Thank you for reading my blog!
